How to Create a Shortcut to an Application


1. Open up the start menu ( left-click the windows icon in the bottom-left corner).
2. scrolling through the apps list to locate the application you would like to make a shortcut of.
3. Once you find the application, drag and drop the application onto the desktop, and it will create a link to the program, creating the shortcut.

Please note that you can’t search for the application by name in the start menu. Windows 10 won’t let you drag and drop anything from the search results. It should, but it doesn’t.

How to Create a Shortcut to a File or Folder


1. In File Explorer, find the document you want to make a shortcut of.
2. Hold down the "Alt" key and drag and drop the document onto the desktop.

Instead of holding down the "Alt" key, you can right-click the document and select the "Create Shortcut" option, this will create the shortcut in the file explorer, but you can drag and drop the new shortcut link onto the desktop.

How to Create a Shortcut to a Website


1. Navigate to the website you would like to make a shortcut for your desktop.
2. Click on the icon before the web address, either a lock or a triangle, and drag and drop it onto the desktop

Alternatively. you can highlight the web address, by clicking the web address or pressing "Ctrl+A", then drag and drop the address onto the desktop to create the shortcut.

Note that the shortcut will automatically open with your default browser.

Renaming Your Shortcuts

Whatever type of shortcut you create, you can right-click it afterward, select “Rename,” and change the name to whatever you like.

If you don’t see any shortcuts on your desktop, they may be hidden. Right-click the desktop and select View > Show Desktop Icons to unhide them.
